Employees of ETH Zurich who have to arrange family matters due to the Ukraine conflict are supported by ETH with great flexibility. Please consult your supervisor. If necessary, contact your responsible HR partner. There is the possibility of taking paid leave in accordance with the Personnel Ordinance.
Fixed-term contracts of scientific staff (especially doctoral students, postdocs, senior assistants) can be extended in consultation with your supervisor. If necessary, please contact your HR partner.
Employees and supervisors have access to various counselling and coaching offers in the event of personal stress or challenging management and team situations. In addition, external specialists can be called upon to provide psychological counselling for employees.
ETH Zurich is prepared to welcome researchers and students from Ukraine and is providing support in this regard. However, please find out in advance about the entry and residence regulations that are currently valid for Switzerland and independently of the measures taken by ETH Zurich.

Students
ETH Zurich continues to offer refugee Ukrainians who are already enrolled at a Ukrainian university and have been granted "S" protection status in Switzerland an uncomplicated and rapid admission as "auditors". Please send the

Please note: Examinations and thus the acquisition of credits as well as the receipt of a confirmation of participation are not possible within the framework of this emergency assistance. Experience@ETH
ETH offers students the possibility to gain work experience in an academic environment as an intern. It is open to persons who have not yet completed their studies and includes a standard internship salary (CHF 2,600/month). It is full-time employment and it is not possible to combine "Experience@ETH" employment with a student status. The standard duration is 6 to 12 months.
Project mobility student
Another emergency measure is to be part of a research group at ETH Zurich as a project mobility student. As soon as you have found a professor to whose group you are invited, you can enrol as a project mobility student. Students need to apply directly to potential supervisors. Please inquire with your supervisor whether they offer "Experience@ETH" internships or a thesis/research project for project mobility students, or if either option is possible.

ETH Zurich can apply for a work permit for persons with protection status S. The employment contract should be arranged via supervisor and HR partners. HR Hosting institutes can apply for subsidiary funding from ETH to finance this type of employment.
Researchers
Together with the other institutions of the ETH Domain and swissuniversities, ETH Zurich is doing everything in its power to support and host researchers from Ukraine. ETH Zurich has provided financial support to research groups that employ Ukrainian researchers. Research groups from ETH Zurich that are willing to host Ukrainian researchers should inscribe themselves on the following link details of their research area as well as the type and duration of employment:
Ukrainians can enter Switzerland external pagewithout a visa and stay freelycall_made in the Schengen area for a total of 90 days.
Those from Ukraine who are seeking protection after having had to flee their country because of the war will be granted protection status "S" in Switzerland. Please note the authorities' definition of the external pagegroup of persons in need of protectioncall_made. In addition to Ukrainian nationals and their family members, persons from third country nationals who have had to flee the country because of the war will also receive protection status "S". The prerequisite is that they had a valid residence permit in Ukraine prior to their flight and are unable to return safely and permanently to their home country. Persons who have already been granted protection status in another EU state are not eligible for protection status "S".
With protection status "S", persons are granted the right of residence in Switzerland for one year. This period can be extended. With protection status "S", the persons concerned will receive social assistance and be able to pursue gainful employment subject to a work permit without a waiting period.

Persons with protection status "S" will be given the opportunity to engage in gainful employment subject to a work permit without a waiting period. ETH Zurich can apply for a work permit for persons with protection status "S" and issue an employment contract.
In order to obtain protection status "S", a person must enter Switzerland and register with a federal asylum centre. The protection status can be granted following examination of the person's case, which takes 2-3 weeks. However, employment process can be started in parallel if there is a positive decision on the temporary grant of protection (official term in German: "Positiver Entscheid über die vorübergehende Schutzgew?hrung").

ETH Zurich has welcomed the research groups’ engagement and has therefore provided financial support. This support has expired. Applications can no longer be submitted.
ETH Zurich is supporting the #ScienceforUkraine initiative, which networks the international research community and compiles offers for Ukrainian researchers. from ETH Zurich is coordinating the offers in Switzerland together with Maksym Andriushchenko from EPFL.
Relief supplies for Ukraine – ETH collection campaign
The ETH Students’ Association (VSETH) is supporting the nationwide collection campaign by the "Friends of Ukraine” organisation and will initially operate a collection point on the H?nggerberg campus at least until end of May. You can drop off relief supplies in building HPT C 117 from 4 to 6 p.m. on weekdays. Alternatively, you can hand them in at the collection point in the Main Building of the University of Zurich in the Centre, which is operated by VSUZH. ETH Foundation
